Taylor Lautner Exclusive Interview For Cosmopolitan

Cosmo: Jacob goes through a lot in Eclipse, tell us about the character
Taylor: He does go through a lot in the film really. He is kind of his new self, which is how he was for the second half of New Moon. He is transformed now and has become this new person and in Eclipse he is still fighting for Bella but at the same time he and the werewolves are forced to team up with Edward and the Cullens to protect Bella from Victoria so it is a very interesting situation. He is still very much in love with Bella even though she seems to have made her decision about Edward. But there is still hope at this stage, absolutely.

C: The first film launched you and the second made you a star. It seems the interest is building all the time…
T: It’s a lot different from when I started, definitely. There are pros and cons to everything but especially with what I have chosen. There are cons, the privacy level and everything that comes with it but I feel there are a lot more pros. And I am doing what I love to do so I am not complaining at all.

C: As your profile rises with each film, is that reflected in the quality and quantity of scripts you get sent?
T: Yes. I guess you could say that. I have been desperately busy reading a lot of scripts. It is tough decisions but I feel like the best way is to go with your gut and what you are passionate about from the beginning. You are surrounding yourself with great filmmakers. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to have all of those options.

C: Do you find you get a lot of scripts of a certain type or is it varied?
T: There is actually a wide variation and I am very lucky to have that, because as an actor I do want to challenge myself to do everything and I do love action dramas but I would love to do a comedy and I would love to do a great drama piece, so it is great to have the opportunity to look at all those different kinds of scripts.

C: What is next for you? Abduction?
T: Abduction is going to be the very next event and we will start in July.

C: What’s it about?
T: It is about a High School senior who is doing a project and he finds a picture of himself on a missing persons website and basically he starts to realize that his whole life has been a lie. So the rest of the movie is him on the run trying to figure out who he is, who his parents were and who his real parents are. The closest thing I can compare it with is The Fugitive. It is an action thriller but definitely a drama as well. It is really a self-discovery movie. This character discovering who he is and what his life is all about. Compared to Twilight, they are definitely different beasts and that is one of the reasons I want to be involved in St. Valentine’s day, going from the Twilight franchise to a romantic comedy movie, and then to this action thriller like Abduction. They are all very, very different and that is exactly what I want, to challenge myself to do as many different roles as possible.

C: How has your family been supportive of your career?
T: I make sure to have them on set and stuff and visit because it does get lonely. It really does [help], up there filming for three months so I like bringing home to wherever I am.

C: Do you bring friends as well?
T: I do. They visit quite often. I usually have someone there. I am never there by myself for too long!
